Star Wars legend Harrison Ford was ‘almost killed’ by a novice Star Trek actor in a near-miss road traffic accident.
Star Trek Voyager star Garrett Wang has shared a story in which he almost mowed down Han Solo star Harrison, 77, while racing to an audition for his own iconic role as Ensign Harry Kim.
The 51-year-old Star Trek actor shared an anecdote during his podcast series The Delta Flyers, in which he and co-star Robert Duncan McNeil, 55, recount their experiences of working on Star Trek Voyager – which aired between 1995 and 2001.
In their first episode, Garrett recalls auditioning for his role as Ensign Kim – and says it almost ended in disaster when he sped into the Paramount Studios lot in Hollywood while running late for his audition in 1994.
He recounts: “I’m actually speeding around the parking lot and I come around this one bend and this guy in a suit walks between two cars right in front of my car so I slam on my breaks.
“You know when you almost have an accident your heart is beating a thousands miles a minute?
“I lock eyes with this dude in the suit and it’s Harrison Ford! I look at him and I go ‘Oh my god! I almost killed Han Solo!’ I would have been hated by nerds everywhere!”
Garrett explained there was an added irony to the near-miss.
He said: “I remember reading the Variety paper, our Hollywood trade paper, the next day and on the front page was a photo that said ‘Harrison Ford at Paramount Studios for the Clear and Present Danger screening.’
“He was there for that, based on the Tom Clancy novel, wearing that same suit I almost maimed him in. He could have been a cripple, because of me.”
Garrett and Robert, who played Lieutenant Tom Paris, have been thrilling fans with their behind-the-scenes stories from their days on the set of Star Trek Voyager with their Delta Flyer’s podcast.
Each week they re-watch an episode from the Emmy Award-Winning series – which ran for seven seasons and 172 episodes – and recall stories from on and off the set.
The show starred Kate Mulgrew as Captain Kathryn Janeway and made history for being the first Star Trek series to be fronted by a female captain.
Harrison Ford played Han Solo in five of the nine Star Wars films – first appearing in A New Hope in 1977 and most recently in The Rise of Skywalker in 2019.
In 2014, the star had another near-death experience while on the set of Star Wars: The Force Awakens.
He was rushed to hospital with a fractured ankle when a hydraulic door of the Millennium Falcon fell on him.
